There's no good way to put this, really. A lumbar puncture (also known as spinal tap) is a not-so-fun but really important procedure done to collect spinal fluid. To do this (don't freak out), a not-exactly-small needle is inserted into your lower back. It is a tough but necessary evil that helps diagnose MS
