Through her work as a software engineer, Joan Jordan got to live, work and experience healthcare in France, the Netherlands, the USA and her native Ireland. Her diagnosis in 2010 meant that she had to retire from the job she loved but she is using her scientific background to learn about medicine research and design through the European Patients’ Academy training (www.EUPATI.eu). Since qualifying as a EUPATI fellow, Joan has been involved in advisory groups on medicinal cannabis and electronic health records. She is passionate about the effective reporting of side effects (http://www.takeandtell.org/). Joan has done lots of new and unexpected things since her diagnosis: blogging, participating in a clinical trial, publishing a book. Her motto is “Patients Involved.”
